Five of the Top Newborn Items to Have Before Bringing Baby Home
Bringing a new baby into your home is overwhelming in and of itself. You don’t need the prepping and shopping leading up to them to be overwhelming too. That’s why we’ve gathered the top five newborn products for you to have stocked in your home. There are some obvious must-haves for any baby - a crib, diapers, bottles. But we’ve gathered a list of those extra things you’ll want to have around as well. Things that will keep baby happy and help them grow, all while making things easier for you.
Plenty of onesies
Our number one baby tip? You can never have too many newborn and baby onesies. Between all the blowouts, spit-up and just plain baby drool, you’ll likely be changing in and out of onesies quite often. Stock up on them, to help save you from constantly running loads of laundry. Onesie sets like this are perfect for stocking up. We especially love these unique onesies - made with blowouts in mind. They are created with snaps at your baby’s shoulders, so you can take off a dirt onesie without shimmying it over their head. Trust us, there’s nothing worse than trying to pull a soiled onesie over your baby’s head (been there, done that!). We also like having some fun baby onesies on hand, with cute sayings like this or this. With so many options out there, your peanut is guaranteed to look cute in any outfit.
Pretty, soft bedding
Remember we said a crib is a must-have for your baby? Well, you gotta make sure you have the best sheets for it, too! Deck out your crib with the cutest, softest sheets you can find - your baby will thank you. And maybe, it’ll be so comfy your baby will want to sneak a few extra Zs each morning (which means you get to steal a few extra Zs yourself). We are all about bedding with cute designs like this, or you can never go wrong with some solid-colored sheets too. We especially love having our littles sleep on ultra-soft sheets like this (honestly, we’re quite jealous we can’t sleep on them ourselves).
Diaper bag
One of the first things you’ll learn is that your baby goes through A LOT of diapers. So that means you need to bring a lot with you when you leave the house. Plus, you’ll inevitably need to pack a lot more than just diapers. Getting a diaper bag with plenty of storage and numerous pockets is key. Find one that will fit all the baby wipes, a spare outfit (or two), diaper cream, a bottle and all your personal stuff. Remember, just because you’re carrying a diaper bag, doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty and fashionable. We love this bag that can go with any chic outfit you have on.
If you’re running a quick errand and don’t want to carry a big bag, look for a mom-friendly clutch, crossbody or fanny pack to carry a diaper and a few baby wipes.
Feeding supplies
No matter what approach you take to feeding your baby, there’s certain supplies you’ll want on hand to make meals easier for both you and your little one. Looking to breastfeed? Be sure you have a nursing pillow on hand to make it more comfortable for you and baby. What we love about this one is that it can transform into a pregnancy pillow - so buy it early and enjoy it while waiting for your baby to arrive!
If you’ll be utilizing bottles for your feeding sessions, you’ll want to have a sterilizer on-hand. It will help keep all your bottles clean and safe (along with your pump parts!), and it will save you an incredible amount of time to not have to constantly wash and dry every piece yourself.
To plan a bit further ahead for when your baby is ready to start trying purees, look into a food processor like this Smart Baby Food Maker & Process or a Duo Meal Station Food Maker. It’s a great way to serve nutritious food made fresh in your own home. Be sure you snag some containers to store all your food afterwards.
Developmental toys
We also love having plenty of baby toys laying around the house. In the early months of development, it’s important to expose your baby to toys that were built to grow their minds like this. Black and white toys are specifically made to help your little one’s visual perception - check out these art cards.
You’ll also want to have little toys that will keep them busy during wake windows. Like a cute teether or soft ball. A lovey like this is perfect for soothing. A lamb mobile is perfect to entertain them during diaper changes. And a stroller toy like this keeps them busy when you’re out and about.
As you head into this new adventure, lean into these items to help simplify your days. That way you’ll be able to enjoy all the little smiles, giggles and wiggly toes your baby brings with them.
