Behind the Brand
When our founder, Stephanie, reached a turning point, or burnout point if you will, with her second child at 6 months and her first child at 3, she faced a pivotal moment. The sight of cluttered toys in their tiny Brooklyn apartment overwhelmed her with exhaustion. Walkers, singing toys, and an excess of stuff suffocated the living space. Downsizing due to life circumstances and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic intensified the challenge.
Amid these trying times, a shift occurred.
She made the choice to donate most toys and embrace minimalism. She even homeschooled her older child, then 3, for a year. The impact was profound—it reduced stress and created space for Stephanie to connect with herself, allowing her to grow as a parent. It also provided space for her children to flourish with wild ideas, using only a few open-ended toys and household items. The simplicity and familiarity of the materials truly allowed them to rediscover the joy of playing and connecting as a family.
Through this transformative journey, she realized that children don't require countless toys. What they truly need are a few versatile tools to nurture their imagination, creativity, and storytelling. Stephanie also recognized the wastefulness of excessive toy consumption.
The idea to create a toy was sparked during a casual conversation about water toys with her daughter. This ignited a profound dialogue, setting Stephanie on a 3-year journey to design b is for ball™. This innovative toy embodies simplicity, versatility, and design, aligned with the brand's vision of creating joyful and meaningful family experiences.
