Our Favorite Outdoor Toys for Keeping Little Ones Outside Longer
Warmer weather is here, which means we can finally unplug and head outdoors. Those winter days can feel long, like your children get bored faster because you keep playing with the same toys every day. When playing outside isn’t an option, it can be harder to keep your little one entertained. You have a routine (likely leaving you indoors most of the time) and it can feel like you’re doing the same thing over and over. Your children’s screen time may even increase during those winter months (hey, no judgment here - we’ve been there too!).
There’s a sense of relief that comes as the weather warms up and the days get longer. You can start sending your kids outside to soak up some sun and have fun. They get to run around, be hands-on with nature and explore new toys (or at least toys that feel new since they haven’t played with them in months).
We’re all about kids fostering a deep connection with nature and the great outdoors. That’s why we’ve curated a list of outdoor toys that inspire physical activity and imaginative play. From classic favorites to innovative toys, these are sure to ignite your child’s sense of adventure and create memories all season long.
Bikes & Trikes
One of the most classic toys to have in your garage is a bike! We love the variety of bikes that Iimo USA offers. They have a 3-in-1 tricycle for 12mo+, balance bikes for 2+ year olds, a 2-in-1 bike for 3+ year olds and a bike (with an adorable basket) for more advanced riders. No matter what stage of rider your little one is, Iimo has a beautiful bike for them. Don’t forget to have a helmet for safety, too!
Playhouses
A perfect way to introduce your children to sensory and imaginative play outdoors is with a life-size playhouse. We love the 2MamaBees’ playhouses because they make a beautiful addition to your background. There’s the Ajure Playhouse, a black and white farmhouse with a built-in wood kitchen, play food and cedar window boxes for planting your favorite flowers. For a playhouse that’s a tad bit bigger, check out the Zahara Playhouse which has an added bench outside for additional seating. For the full experience, their Oceano Playhouse will have your children playing outside for hours. And did we mention all of their playhouses are almost six feet tall, so that you can comfortably play inside too?
Interactive Toys
We look to have plenty of hands-on outdoor toys for our children too - some of which also make fun indoor toys. Anything that encourages green fingers like a gardening caddy, a kid’s wheelbarrow set or a kid’s greenhouse set are a must. Some other outdoor play ideas are wooden toys like a workbench or even an ice cream cart. You could also bring out a few wooden toy cars to play in the dirt - like a front-end loader, digger toy or road roller toy. Or how fun would it be to set up a picnic during lunchtime?
Water Fun
One of the best parts of playing outside is having the chance to splash around in water. We love this anti-UV baby or toddler tent and pool as a way for the kids to enjoy water while also being in the shade. Or if you have a younger baby, this is the best inflatable baby bath and paddling pool. And don’t forget - all your bath toys can double as outdoor toys in your inflatable pool or water table.
